Fund A Mom is one of our fantastic partner projects which supports mothers and families living below the poverty line. The premise is simple – mothers know their situation, mothers know their children, and mothers know best. So if you give a mother cash, she will know best how to use it to her and her family’s advantage.
Fund A Mom began modestly in Jaipur, India. Fund A Mom helps many women secure stable incomes, provide education for their children, and break the cycle of poverty. Inspired by its success in India, Fund A Mom has since expanded into Ghana, with big plans for the future!

Most recently, 5 new mothers in Ghana have joined the programme. This initiative aims to provide financial and social support to struggling mothers, ensuring that their children remain within a stable family environment rather than being placed into institutions due to economic hardship.
In Ghana, poverty is the leading cause of children being placed in care institutions —not the loss of parents. Studies show that up to 90% of children in orphanages have at least one living parent. The economic instability that forces mothers to give up their children is preventable with direct financial support and business development opportunities. By investing in these mothers, we keep families together, reduce child institutionalisation, and empower women to become financially independent.
OUR FIRST MOTHER IN GHANA – Patience
Patience’s life was devastated when her husband was tragically killed in Libya in August 2024. He had migrated to seek better job opportunities and worked tirelessly to support their family. His sudden death left Patience and their son in extreme financial and emotional distress, forcing them into precarious living conditions. Rejected by her husbands family and unable to reunite with her three daughters from a previous marriage, Patience faced immense hardship and struggled to provide for her son. With no steady income, she lived in an unfinished building offered by a stranger, battling financial insecurity and health issues. Through Fund A Mom, Arms Around The Child, in partnership with Becky’s Foundation, stepped in to support Patience. The programme has provided counselling and emotional support to help her process grief and rebuild confidence; financial assistance to restart her small trading business, giving her economic stability; educational support for her son, ensuring he can return to school; and medical care to address post-surgical complications affecting her ability to work. With ongoing support, Patience is determined to rebuild her life, secure a stable future for her son, and regain her independence.
