In 2012 Life Ball awarded “Operation Bobbi Bear” with the Life Ball/Swarovski Crystal of Hope Award. Endowed with EUR 100,000, the honor was presented by Naomi Campbell and Antonio Banderas to the founder Jackie Branfield. Jackie Branfield has created an operation which has changed an entire region with a simple but very powerful idea. In the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal (South Africa), it is estimated that one in every four girls will be raped by her sixteenth birthday. Operation Bobbi Bear works on behalf of sexually abused and victimized children by helping to minimize their risk of an HIV infection from the moment of rescue, ensuring their health and well being, and bringing their perpetrators to justice. Their court-approved approach, which uses a colored teddy bear for children to draw on to describe their abuse, has helped save thousands of children from being victimized again through retelling their stories over and over to authorities.
The Campaign
Life Ball has decided to support this outstanding project beyond the Crystal of Hope with further fundraising activities which it direly needs to ensure the continuation of this important work. to support this outstanding project beyond the Crystal of Hope Award with further fundraising activities to ensure the continuation and expansion of this important work. Together with Build-A-Bear® a charity auction campaign is launched: Life Ball has asked fashion designers and international personalities to create unique Build-A-Bear® bears to be auctioned for the benefit of Operation Bobbi Bear. Lending their creativity to help this extraordinary organization personalities, presidents and pop stars like President Bill Clinton, Sir Elton John, Sean Penn, Nicole Kidman, Sharon Stone, Heidi Klum, Janet Jackson, Adrien Brody, Vivienne Westwood, Eva Longoria, Jean Paul Gaultier, Roberto Cavalli, Versace, Caroline Scheufele for CHOPARD and many more have participated.
The Auction
