Vocational Impact
Vocational Impact offers life changing experiences to students wishing to gain invaluable hands-on experience in their subject or field. The program launched in 2016 as a branch of Arms Around The Child and has since supported more than 3000 placements impacting community initiatives and offering life changing experiences for participants.
The program focuses on creating sustainable partnerships within the existing communities of the supported sites in India, Ghana and South Africa. With the option of 22 different placements available and strong focus on psychology and mental health students gain invaluable hands-on experience in clinics, hospitals and through community outreach.
All projects focus on sustainable community support with tailored programs that draw on the individuals interests, experience and expertise. Students and graduates can gain hands-on experience with local professionals and stakeholders experiencing the rich culture and challenges and barriers institutions face within the global South.
Participants are supported and guided by VI’s dedicated team from the moment they register with advice on fundraising, travel and 24/7 in country support. Fees are then channeled into the running costs of programs that support vulnerable children such as Becky’s Home in Ghana, Faith Aalingan in India or the Fund a mum scheme.
Programs include:
Criminology and Law South Africa where students can shadow human rights lawyers fighting for justice collaborate alongside larger NGOs as well as smaller groundbreaking pilots attempting to reform South Africa’s penal code.
Psychology and Mental Health Ghana one of the most popular placements where students work alongside mental health nurses, Drs and psychologists observing diagnosis, counseling and clinical care whilst deepening knowledge on the range of conditions and the challenges Ghanaian society faces alongside community outreach and opportunities to run workshops and impact real change.
